For a long time the internet has been a mashup of designs, some good most bad. However as more and more people use the internet for their everyday tasks and activities the need for a more uniform “look and feel” starts to become obvious. Don’t misunderstand me I am an avid template hater. I do believe that each brand / company needs it’s own personal look and feel to be demonstrated through their websites. However, when it comes to web applications it would be a whole lot more simple for users if they all conformed to some sort of common, sensible format.

With Twitter’s recent release of their Bootstrap package it is certain that even some of the most successful web companies have realised that there is a need for more uniformity and ease of use on the web.

I recently came to the point where I needed a new computer. My first instinct was to look for a Windows pc as that is what I was used to! However after tirelessly looking at the SHOCKING websites of the hardware manufacturers (in particular HP) I decided if you cannot even have a decent website then I don’t think I can trust your products. Thats when I turned my back on the PC Guy image and decided I would prefer to succumb to the Jobs cult and switch to Mac…

After excitedly buying my new iMac I carefully placed it on the desk. I was surprised by the absolute rigidity and strength of the aluminum enclosure and the glossiness of the screen. I immediately decided anyone who touched my ultra gloss screen would have my pet cactus for dinner. After booting up I was confused for the first time in a long time and although this wasn’t a good omen it did give my family great satisfaction to see the IT boffin’s eyes all glossed over.
Once I had conquered the paradigm shift to get my head into OsX Lion I was pleasantly surprised to have found not only an operating system years ahead of Windows 7, but one that made everything I did look 5x better. Viewing websites, using photoshop and even playing music, all just looked and sounded better. I realized that the advantage Apple has by building both the software and hardware on their devices puts them in a league of their own.
Now to wait and see what Windows 8 brings to the table!
